The State of Anger
September 09, 2023The purpose of the emotions is to communicate. When you are angry, the anger is there to show to others so that they might understand just why you feel this way and either cease doing what they are doing, or be rallied through your anger against something else into doing something about said thing.
Some of what I have created drips with anger. Perhaps the anger is being communicated because there is some great obscenity that hangs over the human condition as experienced by those in Western culture. I see that in the texts that we take for granted as the foundations of our cultures there is a fundamental hatred of life that has poisoned us in unspeakable ways.
The religious are taught that they are completely undeserving of the love of their God for completely ludicrous reasons, and that it is only through his "grace" and good nature that God would forgive them for the slightest transgression. I am not going to write that perpetrators of this view are evil for doing so, but the people who believe this of themselves are victims, and any sense of self-worth which they naturally possessed as toddlers has been utterly robbed of them.
It has been spoken of at length how hostility toward life itself is an aspect of Christian culture, but everywhere we go we see that humans cannot abide living on this Earth without denigrating it. Even now, I speak of my anger toward what happens on this Earth, as I myself am a product of Christian culture, even if I have extricated myself mostly from its grip and established my own mythos in the garden of my brain.
However, if I remain in the Western world, what goes on around me is still linked to the poisonous hatred of Earthly life that lurks behind the texts that govern the minds of a large part of the population. I see that pity for the sickly and weak is praised, and while I find that I myself can be sickly and weak in some respects, that this praise does not often translate into a genuine concern for the sickly and weak unless they can be taken advantage of, oppressed, and profits can be made from their infirmity.
I will acknowledge that Christianity today is not what it once was, but what it has become is a bunch of people who act like salesmen and hawk their particular source of revenue, as if they were saying:
"Believe in Jesus, and you shall be saved after we spend our entire lives draining the blood from our victims' bodies in order to make every last penny we can from their suffering, and then when you're thoroughly good and dead, you will have your reward."
It has simply become a way to justify rather crass forms of capitalism, and Christianity is a means to crucify anyone who would act in the manner of Christ and interrupt the sources of revenue that feed the bank accounts of capitalists, who often delude themselves into thinking that they are good.
Christianity in medieval society was the culture industry of that particular people and way of life, and it told people what to think, how to behave, what kind of behavior is praiseworthy, and other such things, and it was made to benefit the ruling class, as all religions come to be. In modern society, Christianity has competition from many sources, and so the culture industry of modern society with its plastic art and sugar-coated kitsch philosophies has worked to divide us in ways that make us more profitable for all.
Class has always been the real division that dominates society, but while there are disparities between certain people based on race, gender, and sexuality (and I do feel these acutely around me), we have been encouraged to divide ourselves into camps based on these things so that we fight each other and do not realize that the ruling class simply wants us to suffer for their benefit, and they know that it is not in their best interest to present a view of the world which would cause us to be able to extricate ourselves from their influence (whatever that may entail).
It is, however, possible to extricate oneself from the lies presented to us by society, religion, and culture, but it is only on a personal level, and so those of us who can do this find ourselves very lonely and with few friends and allies. We see that everyone goes on without us, finding that society can be killed within but that it is very difficult to live without in the long run.
To get back to anger, it is necessary when walking around in the real world to conceal one's anger. One cannot simply lash out at everyone they meet, or show how angry it makes one feel because of what they do, because many of these people have power. It is power that was obtained through a quite infuriating obscenity, but it was obtained nonetheless. So, I will acknowledge the power of my enemies, but I will do what I can to ensure that they have as little say over my day to day activities as possible, and to whoever may be influenced by it, I will show my anger.
